When mezzo-soprano Megan Mikailovna Samarin steps onto the HGO stage as Sesto in Julius Caesar next month, she will have national exposure that few young artists can hope for: a glamorous photo spread in Opera News, the nation’s premier opera publication. The 2017 HGO Studio alumna caught the interest of Opera News editor F. Paul Driscoll last season when she sang the role of Siébel in HGO’s Faust. In his article in the October issue, Driscoll describes Samarin as “a poised, classy singer with an impressively even, supple mezzo-soprano.” And she can barely contain her excitement about singing her first post-Studio role: “Sesto’s music is some of the most divine music in the world…And I can’t wait to sing the most beautiful duet ever with Stephanie Blythe as Cornelia. Stephanie Blythe! When that is happening, I’m sure I won’t be able to think of anything except, ‘Wow, this is my life!’”
